[news/question] Emacs Mac Port for v25 is now available. Anyone tried it yet? Submitted 2 years ago by ocodo. Via homebrew/railwaycat tap: stable emacs-25.1-rc1-mac-5.90. Has anyone tried it yet? 20 comments; share. I've used the Emacs Mac Port for a few years now so losing that is kind of a big deal. Note that I've suffered no lag or any.

I've started using emacs-mac-port, and I like it for its font display:
Use non-integral x positions for displaying antialiased proportional fonts. You can see the difference by putting the box cursor over Helvetica 12pt `I', whose ideal width is 3.33398 but displayed with the rounded width 3, for example.
Unfortunately, emacs-mac-port doesn't support running daemon mode:
The Mac port doesn't support multi-tty with GUI. The developer has no idea how to detach Emacs as a GUI application from Window Server or Dock without separating a GUI process (not thread) from the main Emacs (Lisp evaluator) process. TTY-only multi-tty is supposed to work.
- Is there a way to build the regular homebrew version of Emacs with the exact font display options of emacs-mac-port? I tried
brew install emacs --srgb --with-cocoa --use-git-head
, but the fonts still don't look as nice as they do on emacs-mac-port. Can this be done, or is it impossible since they're based on different cores? - Assuming I stick with emacs-mac-port, is there a workaround that would enable me to launch GUI Emacs instantly? By starting an Emacs server or something? I'd like to be able to quit out of Emacs, but then instantly re-launch it again when I need it. Even if I can't share processes between terminal Emacs and GUI Emacs, it would still be nice to somehow have Emacs running in the background so that starting up GUI Emacs is instant.
